The Mediterranean Fruit Fly (Ceratitis capitata or Medfly) is considered one of the most important agricultural pest in the world.
It has been recorded infesting a wide range of commercial and garden fruits, nuts and vegetables,
including apple, avocado, bell pepper, citrus, melon, peach, plum and tomato.

The most common methods to control this destructive insect are:
“Mass Trapping “using an attractant such as protein Hydrolysate, in especially designed reusable traps and “Bait /Cover Spray” which is spraying part of or the whole trees with a mixture of attractant and an Organophosphorus insecticide.
MED-LURE is a highly effective attractant containing 40% hydrolyzed protein synergized with ammonium salts, which can attract both male and female fruit flies and is fully compatible with the mentioned control methods.

• Dosage and Application Interval:
Mass Trapping: a 10 percent solution of MED-LURE in water is prepared and poured into traps, i.e. McPhail trap. The trap is then hung, in adequate numbers, on tree branches.
Bait /Cover Spray: a 5 percent solution of MED-LURE in water is prepared and an organophosphorus insecticide, usually MALATHION, is added at the rate of 2 ml per liter of the diluted attractant.
• Safety Precautions:
MED-LURE contains ammonia which is hazardous to skin and eyes and also the fumes are strong repertory irritant.
Wearing goggles, gloves and mask are necessary when handling and diluting concentrated MED-LURE.
